Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Billy, a bill-splitting mobile application (the "App") provided by the Billy developer ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account, signing in as a guest, or otherwise using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the App.

1. What Billy does

Billy helps you split bills and shared expenses with friends and groups. Core features include:

• Scanning receipts with your device's camera or photo library, which are processed by our servers and third-party AI services to extract items, prices, and totals
• Splitting bill items evenly, by exact share, or by assigning items to specific people
• Adding friends and groups via shareable codes or QR codes
• Tracking who owes whom and recording settlements between friends
• Working offline, with your data syncing to our servers once you're back online

Billy does not process, hold, or move money. Any payment details you add (e.g. a bank account or e-wallet identifier) are shown to your friends so they can pay you directly, outside the App. You are responsible for verifying amounts and settling up through whatever payment method you and your friends agree on.

2. Accounts

You may use Billy as a signed-in user (via our authentication provider, Clerk) or as a guest. Guest data is tied to your device and is not backed up if you lose access to it. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for all activity under your account.

You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete Account in the App. This permanently removes your personal information and revokes your sign-in. Bills and settlements you were part of may be retained in anonymized form so the shared history stays accurate for other participants — see our Privacy Policy for details.

3. Billy Pro (subscriptions)

Billy offers an optional auto-renewing subscription ("Billy Pro") that unlocks premium features such as unlimited receipt scanning. Subscriptions are billed and managed through the Google Play Store (or, where available, the Apple App Store):

• Payment is charged to your app store account at confirmation of purchase
• Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
• Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the price you agreed to
• You can manage or cancel your subscription any time in your Google Play / App Store account settings, or via the "Manage Subscription" link in the App
• Free trials, where offered, convert to a paid subscription unless cancelled before the trial ends
• Refunds are handled by Google Play or Apple under their respective refund policies — we don't process payments or refunds directly

4. Your content

You retain ownership of the receipt images, bill data, and other content you submit to Billy ("Your Content"). By using the App, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display Your Content solely to operate and improve the App — for example, showing a shared bill to the friends you split it with, or sending it to a third-party service to extract line items from a receipt photo.

Don't upload content you don't have the right to share, or that's unlawful, abusive, or infringes someone else's rights.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use Billy for any unlawful purpose or to harass, defraud, or harm another person
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other accounts, our servers, or the App's underlying systems
• Interfere with or disrupt the App's operation, including through automated scraping or abuse of invite codes
• Misrepresent your identity or impersonate another person when adding friends or groups

We may suspend or terminate access for accounts that violate these Terms.

6. Disclaimers

Billy's receipt scanning uses automated OCR and AI parsing, which can occasionally misread items, prices, or totals. Always review a scanned bill before splitting or settling it — Billy is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, and we aren't liable for financial discrepancies arising from misread receipts or manual entry errors.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, and our liability for any claim relating to the App is limited to the amount you paid us, if any, in the 12 months before the claim arose.

7. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. Continued use of Billy after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
